Penny Wong says that international law is currently “under a great deal of pressure” and that middle power countries like Australia have a key role to play in upholding global order. The foreign minister has travelled to New York alongside Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for this year’s UN General Assembly. Australia is campaigning for a non-permanent seat on the council for 2029-30, which would mark its first stint on the powerful UN body since 2014. Penny Wong sat down with SBS Chief Political Correspondent Anna Henderson to also discuss Australia’s record on Indigenous youth incarceration, seeking justice for Zomi Frankcom and the risks of AI.
