Italy is preparing a new package of school rules under Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, putting face coverings, foreign student numbers and Italian-language learning at the centre of a wider debate over integration and national identity. The proposed measures would ban the burqa and niqab in classrooms, while leaving the hijab outside the proposal.
