CNN, MS NOW and Politico have notified the Trump administration that they are filing an emergency First Amendment lawsuit demanding the restoration of their White House access. Donald Trump barred the three organisations after accusing them of publishing “fake news,” openly linking their exclusion to reporting he disliked rather than any alleged security breach or misconduct. Reporters Betsy Klein, Akayla Gardner and Cheyenne Haslett were subsequently stopped by Secret Service personnel and had their deactivated credentials confiscated. CNN and MS NOW also reportedly lost access to workspaces and broadcast positions, while CNN was removed from television pool duty for Trump’s New York trip. The outlets argue that the ban violates press-freedom and due-process protections by turning presidential access into a reward for favourable coverage. A federal judge must now determine whether the president can close “the people’s house” to journalists because he objects to what they publish. #do
