Ceuta Mayor-President Juan Vivas and Spain's Popular Party leader Alberto Nunez Feijoo held a joint press briefing in the Spanish enclave on Monday, with Vivas warning that a reported plan by the Sanchez government to convert Ceuta into a permanent migrant accommodation megacentre housing a population equivalent to 15 percent of the city's entire population would mean the death of the city, which he said his administration would never allow. Vivas said more than 50 days had passed since what he described as a migration invasion and the city still had no information on how many migrants remained, who they were, a timeline for returning to normalcy or when border security works would begin, accusing the national government of incomprehensible inaction at both legal and diplomatic levels. The Mayor said Ceuta was living in a pressure cooker that could burst at any moment, and warned the government may be deliberately attempting to use the enclave as an instrument of political polarisation
