Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva used his address at the United Nations General Assembly 2026 to respond to criticism over Brazil’s fight against organised crime and call for greater international cooperation. Lula said Brazil does not underestimate the threat posed by criminal organisations, but argued that cooperation to disrupt the flow of money and weapons is critical. He said he had proposed such cooperation to US President Donald Trump. Turning to the Russia-Ukraine war, Lula called for an end to the prolonged conflict and highlighted its continuing humanitarian toll, arguing that there would be no winners on the battlefield.
