Donald Trump told Andy Burnham that Britain’s plan to hand over sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius was “terrible”. The Prime Minister met the US president for the first time on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday. In a press conference after their meeting, Mr Trump was asked by The Telegraph about Britain’s move to cede sovereignty of the Chagos Islands. “I think it’s terrible. It was a terrible deal,” Mr Trump said.
