Onion prices remain elevated across India, with retail rates in several cities staying above ₹50 a kg despite government intervention. The all-India average retail price was around ₹53.86 per kg on September 18, while the Centre has been releasing buffer-stock onions at ₹35 per kg through outlets and mobile vans. Traders and market participants have pointed to supply constraints, delayed kharif arrivals and quality concerns in stored onions as factors behind the price rise.
