Fariba Hashimi won a silver medal for Afghanistan at the Asian Games 2026, but the medal is only one part of her remarkable story. The Afghan cyclist disguised herself as a boy to train as a teenager, faced attacks for riding a bike and eventually fled Afghanistan to continue her cycling career in Italy. Her journey also reflects the wider struggle of Afghan women in sport after the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Rupha Ramani looks at Fariba Hashimi’s journey, Afghan women’s cycling and the challenges facing sportswomen forced to pursue their dreams in exile. --- Fariba Hashimi | Fariba Hashimi Asian Games 2026 | Fariba Hashimi Cycling | Afghanistan Cycling | Afghan Women’s Cycling | Afghan Women in Sport | Asian Games 2026 | Afghanistan Sports | Women’s Cycling | Cycling News | First Sports | Rupha Ramani | Firstpost | Sports News #faribahashimi #asiangames2026 #asiangames #afghanistan #afghanistansports #afghanistancycling #cycling #cyclingnews #asiangamesmedal #silvermedal #w
