Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom has completed the manufacture of a pair of RITM-200S reactor units intended for a floating nuclear power plant that will supply electricity to an industrial cluster in Russia’s Chukotka region, the company said on Wednesday. The reactors were manufactured at Rosatom’s ZiO-Podolsk plant near Moscow and are based on the RITM-200 technology used aboard Russia’s Project 22220 nuclear-powered icebreakers. Rosatom said the newly completed units would be transported to the Baltic Shipyard for further work on the floating power unit. Plant head Anton Lebedev said the facility had manufactured four RITM-200 units in less than a year, which he described as a new production record. Rosatom said 16 RITM-200 units had been manufactured to date, with another 11 at various stages of production. The floating unit is intended to provide power for a copper-mining cluster in Chukotka. #rosatom #russia #russiannuclear #nuclearpower #nuclearenergy #nuclearreactor
