U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Wednesday that a limited ceasefire covering grain and energy infrastructure could ease some global pressures but would not by itself end the war in Ukraine, after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Rubio said both Russia and Ukraine had expressed interest in such a limited truce, while stressing that a broader negotiated agreement would be needed to end the conflict. He described his meeting with Lavrov as significant because the two sides had held a conversation, but said he did not want to portray it as a major breakthrough. Rubio also said the United States had invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 in Miami and that a future Trump-Putin meeting would be useful if it had a clear purpose and produced an outcome. The comments came as Ukraine pushes for an energy ceasefire and Washington continues diplomatic contacts with both Kyiv and Moscow. #m
