Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa delivered a strong message at the United Nations, declaring that the Golan Heights will remain Syrian territory despite Israel’s claims over the strategically important region. Speaking during the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, al-Sharaa said any attempts to violate Syria’s sovereignty or international law would be stopped. The statement comes amid ongoing tensions between Syria and Israel. Al-Sharaa also criticized Israeli military actions in Syria and addressed his disagreement with U.S. President Donald Trump over Washington’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The Syrian president previously said he told Trump that neither the U.S. nor Syria had the right to give the territory to another country. The Golan Heights remains one of the most sensitive territorial disputes in the Middle East, with the United Nations maintaining that the territory is Syrian land under Israeli military occupation.
