Russia is changing the Geran drone and Ukraine's air-defence crews are facing a very different threat. Newer jet-powered Geran variants can reportedly reach speeds of more than 400 kilometres per hour, while some are flying at significantly higher altitudes than earlier Shahed-type drones. That combination of speed and altitude can leave Ukrainian defenders with less time and fewer options to intercept them. In this video, we break down what Russia has changed, why the new Geran variants are creating problems for Ukrainian air defence, and how dramatically the use of these drones has increased. We also look at Ukraine’s response — including newly developed jet-powered interceptor drones designed to hunt down Russia’s faster attack drones.
