If the shortest path across the Atlantic is here, why do all the planes fly on a different path? At the equator, the ground is moving about 1,600 kilometers per hour, but at the poles, it’s zero. So when the warm air flows from the equator to the poles, it starts to outrun the ground below it and curve! This is the “jet stream” and thanks to modern tech, we can fit so many planes in this relatively tiny wind column to give them a boost! And this plane might let us bring back commercial supersonic flight for real, so to see that, subscribe! #plane #jetstream #earth #sky #aviation
