European Council President Antonio Costa told the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday that Russia must end what he described as a “dangerous escalation”, accusing Moscow of having threatened the security of several European Union member states over the past year. Costa said Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was a violation of the U.N. Charter and international law and called for international efforts to create conditions for comprehensive and lasting peace. He also defended the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice, saying accountability should not depend on political considerations.
