Tensions erupted outside the United Nations in New York as hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters demonstrated against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of his UN General Assembly speech. Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon was reportedly among more than 100 people detained, while actress Hannah Einbinder was also reportedly taken into custody. Jewish Voice for Peace said more than 100 protesters were arrested during a mass sit-in calling for an end to U.S. military funding for Israel. The NYPD said officers responded after protesters blocked an intersection and that people who refused orders to leave were taken into custody. Inside the UN, Netanyahu delivered a speech criticizing countries including Britain and France over their positions on Palestinian statehood, while dozens of international envoys walked out as he began speaking. The protest, arrests and UN walkout highlight the continuing divisions surrounding Israel, Palestine, Gaza and U.S. support for Israel
