Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a stark warning at the United Nations, saying Israel’s policies threaten the “very life and existence” of Palestinians and could further undermine the two-state solution. In his prerecorded address to the UN General Assembly, Abbas described the situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank as one of the most dangerous periods in Palestinian history. He pointed to destruction, displacement, settlement expansion and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, while urging the international community to protect Palestinian land and civilians. Abbas also called for renewed international efforts to preserve the two-state solution on the basis of international law. His remarks came after the United States denied visas to a Palestinian delegation for the second consecutive year. The speech comes as international attention remains focused on Gaza, the West Bank, Israeli settlements and the future of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. #MahmoudAbb
