French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Pope Leo XIV to the Elysee Palace on Friday as the pontiff began a four-day visit to France, his first official state visit to the country and the first papal visit since Benedict XVI travelled there in 2008. Footage showed Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron greeting Leo before Brigitte moved inside while the president and pope continued posing for cameras. During his visit, Leo warned French authorities and diplomats that technological progress should not come at the expense of human dignity, describing the risk of creating a “paradise of machines”, and reiterated the Catholic Church’s opposition to assisted dying. The pope is also scheduled to address UNESCO, celebrate Vespers at Notre-Dame Cathedral and meet young people in Paris before travelling to Lourdes and Metz. #popeleo, #popeleo14, #popeleo xiv, #pope, #vatican, #france, #paris, #macron, #emmanuelmacron, #brigittemacron, #elyseepalace, #catholicchurch, #popevisit, #francevisit, #
