How did the first plants transform life on land? In this high school biology lesson from MiaPrep, students explore the two major groups of seedless plants: nonvascular and vascular plants. Students will examine how each group is structured and adapted to survive without seeds. They will explain the critical ecological role early plants played in colonizing terrestrial environments, including stabilizing soils, producing oxygen, and creating habitats for other organisms. Using cladograms, students investigate the evolutionary relationships between the first land plants and their aquatic protist ancestors, tracing how plants made the remarkable transition from water to land.
