Speaking to reporters in a New York hotel after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the United Nations, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran had presented a proposal to the US that — according to Iran — would re-open the Strait of Hormuz and restart negotiations toward a “final deal.” The proposal, presented to the US through mediators this week, calls for the US to meet certain conditions within seven days to restart the talks and re-open the strait, Araghchi said. In response to Araghchi’s comments, a White House official told CNN they were having “positive and constructive discussions through the mediators.” 0:00 Iran: New proposal to restart talks with US, reopen Strait of Hormuz 0:38 Statement from Iranian President Pezeshkian: "We did not choose war" 1:19 CNN correspondent Frederik Pleitgen on reaction in Iran 6:30 CNN correspondent Paula Hancocks on details of new proposal Watch 24/7 live news with CNN Headlines: https://bit.ly/4eIvlTr #News
