Former Metropolitan Police detective Peter Bleksley delivers a furious verdict after Zafer Dogan was reportedly granted bail following his guilty pleas to offences involving images of children taken near his council flat. Dogan was accused of photographing children and adults near a playground before using technology to create sexually explicit manipulated images. Despite objections from prosecutors and police, he was reportedly permitted to return before sentencing to the address from which much of the offending took place. Peter brands that decision “scandalous”, arguing that the justice system placed the offender’s interests ahead of the safety and peace of mind of his victims. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley also criticised what he described as an “unfathomable” decision and warned that officers increasingly feel hamstrung by a justice system failing to put victims first.
