Tennessee Volunteers linebacker Edwin Spillman was just three years old growing up in Sierra Leone, West Africa, when his life would take a turn he never thought possible. His father was a crop farmer, when a boat he was traveling on capsized in severe weather. He drowned and left Edwin’s mother and her seven children behind with an unmanageable path forward. She made the heart-wrenching decision to place Edwin and two other siblings up for adoption, unable to care and provide for them on her own.
