Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that Moscow opposed adding Germany and Japan as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, arguing that reform should instead increase representation from Asia, Africa and Latin America. Lavrov said Russia supported the candidacies of India and Brazil for permanent seats and called for African representation to reflect the Ezulwini Consensus and Sirte Declaration. He also criticised Germany’s plans to strengthen its military role in Europe, questioning what he described as Berlin’s effort to once again become Europe’s main military power. Lavrov further accused Western countries of overlooking what he called manifestations of Ukrainian Nazism and said Russia’s military objectives in Ukraine would be achieved. #lavrov #russia #unga #unga2026 #un #unitednations #unsc #unsecuritycouncil #germany #japan #india #brazil #russiaukraine #ukraine #merz #germanymilitary #geopolitics #worldnews #breakingnews #internationalnews
