Colombia has extradited alleged FARC dissident leader Geovany Andres Rojas, known as “Spider,” to the United States, marking the first transfer of a suspected senior armed-group commander under President Abelardo De La Espriella. U.S. prosecutors accuse Rojas of cocaine trafficking and criminal conspiracy tied to operations in Colombia and Ecuador dating back to 2017, while Colombian authorities say he led the Border Commands faction formed by former FARC fighters who rejected or abandoned the 2016 peace agreement. Rojas was arrested in Bogota February 2025 while participating in activities linked to peace negotiations under former President Gustavo Petro. De La Espriella, who took office in August, has since ended talks with several armed groups and shifted toward extraditions and military operations, with his government saying it has carried out 94 extraditions so far.
