Australia’s rental crisis could still have a LOT further to run. And the reason comes back to the same problem we’ve been talking about for years. We simply don’t have enough homes. Recent analysis from NAB and Ray White has explored what would happen to rents if rental yields moved higher while property prices remained around current levels. In the scenarios modelled, rents would need to rise by roughly 30%. That’s a scenario, not a forecast that rents definitely will rise 30%. For renters, even the possibility of rents remaining this expensive for years is incredibly difficult. But for investors, I think there’s another side worth understanding.
