Ireland will play their Nations League fixture against Israel on Sunday after a significant majority of players voted to fulfil the match, according to Football Association of Ireland CEO David Courell. The decision followed hours of discussions within the Irish camp after one player told head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson that they were uncomfortable fulfilling the fixture and intended to withdraw from the squad. Ireland's scheduled pre-match press conference and training session were delayed as players, coaching staff and officials held discussions. Courell said the squad spent around four hours talking on Saturday, following a separate meeting the previous day. The fixture has attracted significant controversy since Ireland and Israel were drawn together, with political pressure and calls for Ireland not to fulfil the matches. The FAI has previously supported a request for UEFA to suspend Israel from European competitions, while its members subsequently voted in favour of proceeding
