The Home Office proposes housing up to 1,250 asylum seekers at RAF Barnham in Suffolk, close to a village whose population is around 580. Information shared with the parish council says the site would be used for single men, with arrivals phased in if the plan goes ahead. Residents and local representatives have raised questions about the site’s proximity to the village, its limited amenities and the support that would be provided on site. The parish council has been gathering views as the proposal develops. Its chairman says villagers want their concerns heard and is exploring ways to challenge the plan. Charlie Rowley speaks with John Bauer, Chairman of Barnham Parish Council. Have you got a story?
