Boeing has identified a software glitch in its 737 MAX jets that could cause an automated navigation feature to fail, raising concerns about a potential safety risk during landing, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The glitch reportedly emerged from a cockpit software update and can occur when flight crews alter their planned flight path, potentially increasing pilots’ workload during critical phases of flight. The company notified 737 MAX operators about the issue in late August and has now begun a formal safety review, sharing its findings with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). An FAA official said the outcome of the probe could affect the Boeing 737’s certification. The issue could also affect Boeing’s plans for its newest 737 MAX models, the MAX 7 and MAX 10.
