DESCRIPTION: Donald Trump said he would consider getting potash from Belarus — and on the same day said he wants it cheaper but will keep buying it from Canada. At the United Nations, Mark Carney was asked about it, and he did not answer with a threat. He answered with the industry. Canada supplies about 40% of the world's potash, the Jansen mine in Saskatchewan is under construction, and, in his words, "Canada is a reliable, cost-competitive supplier" — on time and most cost-effective for about three quarters of everything American agriculture uses. Then came the part nobody expected: an offer for Canada and the United States to cooperate and become "fertilizer independent", across potash, ammonia and the rest. This video also corrects Carney on air: he said Canada supplies 80% of the world's potash. That number belongs on the American side of the ledger, not the global one. - Why the Belarus option is not a real option: sanctioned potash moving through Russian ports - Saskatchewan
