Thousands of giant bogong moths are migrating across Australia's east coast, appearing in homes and around lights in unprecedented numbers not seen since the 2017 drought. The endangered moths are travelling from inland regions towards the Alps, potentially displaced by strong northwesterly winds, and use the moon and stars to navigate but become confused by artificial lighting. Despite their endangered status due to warming mountain habitats from climate change, their population numbers appear strong this year.
