In a way, Minecraft Dungeons 2 feels like a redo of the first game – a clean slate of sorts. Except the same criticisms are stronger than ever. As much as you'd be willing to forgive a spin-off like this from a studio that isn't known for the genre in 2020, it's now six years later. Even if your expectations were low, Minecraft Dungeons 2 isn't in a hurry to meet them or overstay its welcome. It's just there, middling along, hoping the colorful scenery distracts you enough to disguise its utter barrenness. And quite frankly, this franchise deserves better.
