French firefighters joined a nationwide public-sector strike in Paris on September 29, protesting over staffing shortages, frozen public-sector pay and proposed spending restraints ahead of France’s 2027 budget. Demonstrators marched through the capital with flags and a replica firefighting aircraft before carrying wreaths to Notre-Dame to honour four firefighters who died while fighting wildfires during the summer. Unions are demanding more staff, equipment and resources, while firefighters cited shortages across the profession. The wider strike also involved healthcare workers, teachers and other public-sector employees. Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has said the civil service index point used to calculate much public-sector pay will remain frozen in 2027, while the government is seeking spending restraints across ministries. #france #paris #frenchfirefighters #firefighters #franceprotests #francestrike #publicsectorstrike #budgetcuts #francebudget #payfreeze #staffingshortage #e
