Independent energy analyst Kathryn Porter examines Labour’s proposed £4 billion investment in a new Great British Grid—and argues that ministers have identified the wrong problem. Kathryn says the announcement does not appear to involve £4 billion of new funding and questions whether another state-backed company will remove the practical barriers delaying Britain’s electricity infrastructure. She argues that the principal obstacles are shortages of equipment, skilled workers and available network capacity—not a lack of investment capital. A new organisation, she warns, would face the same supply-chain pressures and connection delays as existing network companies. Have you got a story?
