What if everything we have ever seen or encountered makes up just five per cent of reality? In this fascinating exploration of dark energy, the speaker takes us on a journey through one of the greatest discoveries in modern physics: the realisation that the expansion of the universe is accelerating. Explaining complex scientific ideas through accessible examples, Alexis unpacks the differences between dark matter and dark energy, examines how these discoveries challenge our understanding of gravity, and explores the theories scientists are developing to explain the invisible forces shaping the cosmos. Alexis also looks ahead to future missions, including the next generation of space telescopes designed to uncover the secrets of the hidden universe. More than a lesson in astrophysics, her talk is a reminder that humanity's greatest breakthroughs often begin with questions about what we cannot yet see.  ‘The Mysteries of Dark Energy’.
