Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun rejected a new Philippine maritime chart on Tuesday that includes the disputed Zhongye and Mahuan islands within Manila's Kalayaan Island Group, asserting that China holds indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and that the Philippines' claims fall outside its recognised territorial scope under international treaties. Guo said the chart, released September 25, seriously violated China's territorial sovereignty and international law, including the UN Charter, and vowed Beijing would take necessary measures to safeguard its maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea.
