Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones faced backlash for her now-viral essay about how she views her choice a decade ago to send her daughter to a high-poverty, predominantly Black public school in New York City. Her advice to Black parents facing similar choices with their children today: "Go in with clear eyes." "I'm certainly not sending the message to other folks, don't do it," she told Geoff Bennett on the PBS News podcast, Settle In. Instead, she said, "understand what it is that you're going to face, understand what it is that your children are going to face, and if there's a way to organize other parents with you, try to do that." "But I also understand most of us are working full-time jobs," she added. "You know, I can't ask every parent to make the choice to also become a parent organizer. It's a lot." Hannah-Jones talked with Bennett about her experience, public school systems and where she sees hope for change. Find to the full episode here: https://you
