Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov weighs in on the new US sanctions regime targeting Russia and countries buying Russian energy, arguing that Washington’s pressure on India could increase as New Delhi grows in economic and geopolitical influence. Speaking about India’s purchases of Russian crude, Alipov says New Delhi buys Russian oil for its own economy and people rather than “for the sake of Russia”. He also says Moscow is prepared to supply “as much oil as India needs” and highlights wider India-Russia cooperation spanning nuclear energy, petrochemicals and refining. Alipov also argues that additional sanctions will not change Moscow’s objectives and describes the measures as US “pressure tactics”. The Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 was signed into law on September 18 and provides for tariffs of up to 100% under specified conditions on countries among the largest buyers of Russian-origin crude oil or natural gas. #DenisAlipov #IndiaRussia #RussianO
