One of the five men arrested near RAF Fairford reportedly called emergency services shortly before the arrests, adding a new question to the counterterrorism investigation. Police have not publicly explained why the call was made. The five men have been released on police bail under strict conditions and remain under investigation. Officers say they found petrol in the vehicles near the airbase, but no improvised explosive devices. Major General Chip Chapman considers several possible explanations for the reported call, including a suspect getting cold feet or the activity being a dry run. He also discusses whether the incident could have been intended to unsettle the authorities. The motive remains unknown. Julia Hartley-Brewer speaks with Major General Chip Chapman, former head of counterterrorism at the Ministry of Defence. Have you got a story?
