The aircraft was operating from Ukrainka Air Base, one of Russia's most important strategic aviation facilities. Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed the crash but has not established the cause. The Tu-95 has been used heavily throughout the Ukraine war to launch cruise missiles. We explain what the aircraft is, why it matters and what this crash reveals.
