US-Iran diplomacy has hit another major roadblock — and now Marco Rubio has reportedly ordered Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi and his delegation to leave New York earlier than planned. The reported move came as indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran stalled over Iran's seven-day proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and eventually resume talks on its nuclear programme. The Iranian side disputes the characterisation of Rubio's move as an expulsion, saying the delegation's departure had already been scheduled and communicated to the State Department. Yet despite the diplomatic confrontation, the communication channel has not completely disappeared. Araghchi has taken the US response back to Tehran, while Qatar continues to mediate between the two sides. So, is diplomacy collapsing — or is there still a path toward a deal?
