Tennessee's attempt to execute Christa Gail Pike has ended in an extraordinary failure. The 50-year-old death row inmate reportedly remained alive even after prison officials administered two doses of pentobarbital during a botched lethal injection attempt. Pike was subsequently rushed to a hospital, while Tennessee Governor Bill Lee suspended the state's remaining scheduled execution for the rest of 2026 and ordered an independent investigation. Pike was convicted of the brutal 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, a crime that shocked Knoxville and attracted national attention. The execution was also surrounded by last-minute legal battles, including an appeals court intervention that was later overturned by the US Supreme Court. #christapike #botchedexecution #lethalinjection #tennessee #deathpenalty #deathrow #executionfailure #usnews #breakingnews #americandebate #capitalpunishment #supremecourt #tennesseeexecution #deathpenaltynews #humanrights #worldnews #crime news #tru
