Former prison governor Ian Acheson delivers a stark warning over the Government’s expanded early-release scheme, under which thousands of male prisoners could leave jail after serving a fraction of their sentences. Ian argues that the policy merely transfers risk “from the prison cell to the street corner”, while an overstretched Probation Service struggles to monitor offenders. He warns that further crimes are inevitable and claims people could be seriously injured—or even murdered—as a consequence. He calls for mothballed prisons and emergency accommodation to be brought into use rather than releasing offenders into communities before their sentences are complete. #PrisonRelease #PublicSafety #PrisonCrisis Have you got a story?
