NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte urged the alliance on Thursday to accelerate defence production, warning that Russia and China were “racing ahead” and that NATO needed to increase the speed at which it produces and delivers military capabilities. Speaking at the 2026 International Peace of Westphalia Prize ceremony in Münster, Germany, Rutte said higher defence spending alone was insufficient and called for more trained personnel, tanks, aircraft, ships, drones, weapons and ammunition.
