'Beware Boiúna' director Mike P. Nelson joins MovieWeb’s Joe Deckelmeier to break down his new Amazon-set survival horror film. Nelson discusses why he initially wasn’t looking to make a giant snake movie, how William Friedkin’s 'Sorcerer' influenced the film, and what shooting in the real Amazon brought to the story. He also explains why he didn’t want the Boiúna to function as a traditional movie villain, how the film creates empathy for the creature and its environment, and why character always comes first in his approach to horror.
