Prisoners freed under the first wave of the new early release scheme have thanked Prime Minister Andy Burnham – while others have expressed concerns over how they will cope on the outside. Around 700 prisoners across England and Wales are expected to walk free on Thursday under the controversially expanded programme to free up spaces in prisons. Holding his belongings in a bin bag as he left HMP Durham in North East England, one prisoner told the press: “Justice system, what justice system? Thank-you Andy Burnham.” • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en Follow ITV News on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on X: https://twitter.com/itvnews
