Former Brexit minister Steve Baker reveals that he urged Boris Johnson to offer Nigel Farage a seat in the House of Lords following the 2019 general election. Farage’s Brexit Party stood down candidates in Conservative-held constituencies, helping Johnson consolidate the Leave vote and secure a commanding Commons majority. Baker says he personally pressed the then-prime minister to reward Farage, but Johnson refused because he did not want to be permanently associated with him. Baker describes the decision as a political “sliding-doors moment”, agreeing that Reform UK might not exist in its present form had Johnson handled Farage differently. #NigelFarage #BorisJohnson #ReformUK Have you got a story?
