M.R. Poovamma speaks exclusively to Firstpost’s Sports Editor Rupha Ramani about what it has taken to stay in athletics for 23 years. From winning silver at the 2022 Asian Games to finally hearing the national anthem after India’s gold in 2026, Poovamma looks back at the failures, injuries and ups and downs along the way. She also opens up about being married for four years and still competing, and why she wants young women to know that marriage or age should not stop them from playing sport.
