A French national convicted of robbery and drug offences has won an appeal against deportation from the UK. The immigration tribunal found that he met legal exceptions to deportation after considering the circumstances of his life in Britain and the likely effects of sending him to France. Evidence included his family and partner relationships, support since leaving prison and regular attendance at a local leisure centre. The judge found significant obstacles to his integration in France and concluded that deportation would be unduly harsh on his British partner. Duncan Barkes speaks with former Scotland Yard detective chief inspector Mike Neville about the ruling and the wider debate over immigration courts. Have you got a story?
