Kemi Badenoch has pledged to build 50,000 additional prison places, partly funded by cutting overseas aid, as Labour faces criticism over the early release of prisoners. The proposal has renewed questions about whether the Conservatives can deliver a major building programme after adding only a small net number of prison places during their previous time in government. Reform UK MP Suella Braverman has also ruled out working with the Conservatives after a future election, saying she no longer trusts her former party. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp, meanwhile, has promised to leave the ECHR and deport people arriving illegally within a week if the Tories return to power.
