I give credit to Schluter for being first company to come up with a foam backer board for tile showers 🙌 However, there are many better foam boards out there now. Honestly I think almost all of them are better 😃. My favorite foam board is Wedi & Hydroblok. (essentially the same kind of XPS foam board with a cementious outer layer that allows thinset to bond great to) There are good reasons to use a full Schluter Shower System, they may include: 1. Full warranty of the Schluter System 2. Client has researched products and sold on the Schluter System 3. Easy to purchase off the shelf Reasons I don't personally like it: 1. The board is really flimsy compared to other foam boards. Definitely make sure the framing is flat and supported every 16". This board will bow out easily 2. Its expensive. Like double what other boards are 3. Requires a membrane to go over all seams and screws. This takes more time than a sealant application and can easily be screwed up by beginners if the thi
