“I just do, until I’m tired.” That’s how Malaysian snack seller Radin Daniel describes his working hours. Daniel has cerebral palsy, and working for himself means he can decide when to work and when to rest. His snack sales cover only around 30 to 50 per cent of the RM2,000 (US$490) he needs each month. He supplements his earnings with government assistance, donations and occasional speaking engagements. When money is tight, Daniel cuts back on food, sometimes switching from rice to bread. Daniel is also trying to reach more customers offline. He sells his snacks at car boot sales and has been invited to offices, universities and other events. “To me, it’s a very big achievement to be able to ... build up my own brand, because it’s not easy, you know. It uses my sweat and tears," he says.
